Glass industry facts & figures

The German economy has recovered considerably faster than expected from the effects of the global economic crisis. This is a development which is also reflected in the revenue figures for the glass industry. 2010 closed with a clear upturn in revenue. Year-on-year, the glass industry’s overall revenue increased by 10.7 percent to approximately EUR 9.28 billion (2009: EUR 8.38 billion). Foreign sales
revenue increased by 8.3 percent to EUR 3.34 billion while growth in domestic sales was up 12.2 percent. All segments of the glass industry benefited from the positive development in 2010, with the flat glass, tableware glass and special
glass segments in particular registering strong growth. The number of employees in the glass industry rose by 3.2 percent to around 53,000.
